	Lockdown DRILL this Thursday - important information inside The safety of our students and staff is a top priority of Spanger Elementary School and the Roseville City School District. This Thursday, February 22, 2024, we will have a Lockdown Drill to practice our safety procedures in case of an emergency. This drill will be in the morning and last for approximately 10-15 minutes. We use the following language to indicate a lockdown for students and staff: “Lockdown. Locks, Lights, Out of Sight” You can help by providing simple, factual information about this drill at home to lessen any potential anxiety or fears. Some talking points should include: What is a lockdown? A lockdown is a protective measure where there is an immediate safety risk. Situations may include an unknown or dangerous animal or person on campus or immediately next to it. What do we do in a lockdown? All students and staff seek immediate shelter inside a classroom or other secure location. Doors and windows are closed and locked. All lights are turned off and activity is minimized. Depending on the cause of the lockdown, doors and windows may be barricaded. Students and staff remain in their secure location until the lockdown is cleared. What does “a drill” mean? A drill means we practice. And we practice to keep safe. We practice this drill in case there is danger outside or we are not sure exactly where or what is happening. If you ever need to hide from danger, this is practicing what to do. Remember, you should stop, look, listen, and follow the directions of the adult in the room. Please also speak with your children after the drill. If there are any concerns, please help to reassure them that they are safe at school.
