Enhancing Communication with the Google Translate Extension
At Spanger, we utilize Google Workspace for Education, an all-inclusive platform that provides a range of tools and applications designed to enhance the educational experience. To facilitate effective communication in multiple languages, we would like to offer the Google Translate extension.
If you have questions about what information is disclosed by using the Google Translate extension, please take a moment to review the extension Privacy Practices. If you prefer not to have the District activate the Google Translate extension for your student’s account, please follow the steps below on or before September 22, 2023.
Access the PowerSchool Parent Portal in your web browser.
If you need assistance with your login credentials, please contact your student's school office, and they will gladly assist you with logging in.
After logging in, follow these steps:
Navigate to the left-side menu.
Locate the "Google Translate Preference" menu option.
Choose "Opt-Out" of the Google Translate extension added to your student's account.
Submit the page.
Repeat these steps for all your students within the Roseville City School District.
Important Notice: Chromebook Care and Device Damage
Our school is reaching out today to address a concerning issue in our District since the beginning of the school year. Unfortunately, we have experienced significant damage to our student Chromebooks, with over 150 units requiring repairs or replacements.
While we understand that accidents can, and do, happen, we all must work together to ensure the longevity and functionality of these devices, as they are crucial tools for learning. To avoid further damage and inconvenience, we request your cooperation in taking better care of these devices.
Below are some important guidelines to share with your student to ensure the proper care of their Chromebook both at school and at home:
Handle with Care: Always treat your Chromebook carefully, avoiding drops, impacts, or rough handling.
Safe Transport: Use a padded bag or protective case when carrying your Chromebook to and from school. Avoid placing heavy objects on it.
Avoid Liquids: Chromebooks and liquids do not mix well. Please keep beverages and other liquids away from your device.
Gentle Cleaning: Use a soft, lint-free cloth to clean the screen and keyboard. Avoid using abrasive materials or cleaners that could harm the device.
Responsible Charging: Only use the provided charger and avoid overcharging your Chromebook. Remember to unplug it when fully charged.
Prompt Reporting: If you accidentally damage your Chromebook, please report it immediately to the Library Media Specialist. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.
Our current rate of device damage is unsustainable. As a result, it may take longer to replace a damaged Chromebook as we work diligently to repair existing devices and secure additional loaners. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and kindly request your patience during this time.
Remember that these devices are provided to all students to support and enhance learning, and we are committed to providing all with the tools they need for success. By following these guidelines and taking good care of all Chromebooks, we can minimize disruptions and ensure every student has access to a functional device.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We appreciate your understanding and dedication to preserving these valuable resources.
