Spartan Spotlight Volume 1

Quote of the Week:

  1. "Success is not final; failure is not fatal: It is the courage to continue that counts." — Winston S. Churchill

Message from the principal:

We have finished our first full week and it was fantastic to see all the students start to settle into their routines! It is amazing to watch all the learning that is taking place around campus. I encourage you to discover firsthand the activities and programs happening in our classrooms. Come see our campus, and feel the excitement and energy our students and staff emulate every day. Take a tour, meet our faculty, and see for yourself our welcoming community.
Additionally, please do not hesitate to let us know if we can be of any assistance to you. We are here to help you, and most importantly, to help your child be successful.

Please continue to read below about all the amazing events that are happening at Spanger.

In partnership,

Mr. K

Spanger STEAM Club Fall 2022

This club was created with the purpose of providing our students with a unique opportunity to explore and learn more about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) activities as well as providing a place to learn important social-emotional skills such as sharing, kindness, problem-solving and so much more.

This after-school club will be available each semester to the first 75 students that sign up. If we exceed this number, your child will be waitlisted. However, they will have priority in the next semester's roster.

This club is still FREE to our students, however this year, we are asking for a suggested donation of $40 per student for each session (8/29/22 to 12/21/22) and (01/10/23 to 06/02/23).

100% of donations received will go directly towards the operating costs of this club.

* We will launch STEAM club starting August 29th 2022

* A SMALL AFTER-SCHOOL SNACK WILL BE PROVIDED

                               ***PLEASE NOTE***

 In an effort to serve our students better we are splitting the week up into the following schedule:

* Monday AND Tuesday  - 2nd & 3rd grade ONLY

* Wednesday  - 1st grade ONLY

* Thursday AND Friday - 4th & 5th grade ONLY

Your  STEAM club is located in Room 18 (inside the library).

  • Monday & Tuesday our club hours are 2:00 - 3:30 pm

  • Wednesdays are 12:50 - 2:30 pm.

  • Thursday & Friday hours are 2:00 - 3:30 pm

*Due to staffing needs, you MUST sign up in advance and your student can ONLY attend on their grade level days.

* NO DROP-INS WILL BE ALLOWED.

Safety is very important to us here at Spanger. So in order to make the best experience for our students, we have a few safety rules:

* Students must be Safe, Responsible and Respectful to staff and each other. Each time a student is not, we will call home. Three calls home will result in a student being dismissed from the club.

* Your student must be here the entire duration of the program, there will be no late arrivals or early dismissals.

* Your student will be signed into the center by a staff member but will need to be signed out promptly AT  THE FRONT GATE by a parent or guardian.

* 3rd - 5th may walk home but parent permission for this must be in your registration packet.

*As a courtesy to our staff, PLEASE NO LATE PICK-UPS! After three late pick-ups, students WILL BE dismissed from the program.

Thank you so much, we are looking forward to a great experience with our Spanger students! Please contact Mrs. Hauss by email, if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hauss - STEAM Coordinator & Library Media Specialist jhauss@rcsdk8.org

Spanger Letter Home

2022/2023 School Year

Library Media Center

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome to an exciting year at Spanger Elementary!

My name is Jenn Hauss and I will be your child's Library Media Specialist this year.

Your child will have the opportunity to visit the library to check out books, learn library skills, and listen to wonderful stories. Studies have shown that students who are able to choose what they read from a variety of books are more motivated to read outside of school. Even students who cannot read can greatly benefit from choosing books and  being read to.

Depending on your child’s grade, they will be able to check out anywhere from one to three books at a time:

*TK, KINDERGARTEN AND 1st GRADE can have one book at a time.

*2nd, 3rd and 4th GRADES can have two books at a time.

*5th GRADERS have the special privilege of checking out three books at a time.

These books may be checked out for one week and we highly encourage our youngest students to turn in their book weekly so they can check out a NEW book during every library visit. (2nd grade and up may RENEW their books if they are not done but we only allow 3 renewals on each item.)

Also, please talk with your child about a safe place to put their books so that they do not

become damaged or lost. To assist the younger children with remembering their books, I am asking parents of children in these grades to have their student keep the library book in their backpack and turn it into their teacher as soon as they are done with it. (Each teacher has a designated safe place to store the books until their class comes to the  library). By asking students to return their books on time and in good condition, we are teaching them to be responsible library patrons and continue on their path to excellence.

We do understand however, that accidents can happen. Our district policy requires students who lose or damage school materials to pay for them. Students with lost or damaged library books will not be allowed to check out additional books until payment is made. If a parent is unable to make immediate payment, please contact me to make  arrangements. If a student has a lost or overdue library book, I will be sending home paper notices each month until their account is cleared.

I am looking forward to working with Spanger students, parents and staff this school year. You are warmly invited to visit the library at any time after September 1st! Also, if you could spare a few hours per month, I have several tasks that I could use your help with!

Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Hauss
